The Skater Skirt

When I see a fashion item and I’m not able to buy it, the memory haunts me for a very long time. Today was one of those days.

I went for a meeting at the Tejuosho shopping complex and on my way out I saw this amazing skater skirt. Oh My God, it was so beautiful, made especially for me. I hurriedly went into the stall to ask for the price and buy and then *heartbreak* he said Six thousand Naira. I immediately ran away because yo mahn I’m on a budget.

But on the ride home, I kept wondering what exactly is it about the skater skirt that despite having over six different types already I still wanted to get more.

Fitted at the waist and flared out into an A-line silhouette, (reminiscent of a figure skating outfit—hence the name!) this classic comes in an endless array of fabrics, colors, and patterns, meaning there’s a version out there to suit ever personality and solve any wardrobe dilemma. They’re season-less, but I particularly love them in mini lengths and pretty colors.

This little skirt is probably the most faltering item I have in my closet regardless. It adds curves where there’re not lol, creates long legs due to its high waist and mini cut. And it comes in so many styles and designs it’s a heaven for us girls

The beauty of the skater skirt is how cool and easy it can look with anything. It can be combined in a very glam way with classic pumps, stilettos & high heeled shoes. A blazer will keep the look chic & sophisticated, a leather jacket will make it edgy and a jumper will make it a bit bohemian, flat boots are for a casual edgy style, and ballet pumps for those days when you’ve got a lot of leg work to do, but still wanna keep it girly and the one I love most is when I mix my skater skirt with sneakers.

So lets look at four different ways you can rock your skater skirt

   1.A cute crop

Team your skater skirt with a crop top for an afternoon at the mall and you’ll be ticking all the trend boxes. Finish off the look with strappy heels and loose wavy hair, a slick of black eyeliner and some red lippie and you’re good to go. This can also work for an afternoon at the beach just switch your heels to sneakers or sandals and you are good to go.

  2.Blouse and blazers

Skater skirts are perfect work wear, simply team yours with a crisp sleeveless blouse, chick accesories and a sharp blazer. Leave legs bare and slip on some classy pointed heels to achieve the ultimate boss look.

    3.Layer up

Skater skirts work great with a layered outfit, worn over thick tights and underneath a collared shirt, a denim and cosy jumper you’ll be snug and stylish. Pull on some boots and you’re done

  1. Dress down

A basic tee tucked into your skater skirt is a super easy every day look, just top off with a pair of your comfiest trainers, flats or boots, a messy high ponytail and a sling purse and you’re good to go.

So, I’m thinking should I go back to the store to get one? Or should I just make my own?
